Hoops for Heart
The students of KMES were recognized as third place winners of the American Heart Association Mid-Atlantic Affiliate for having the highest student average for Hoops for Heart. Having the highest student average means that our students raised more money per student than most schools in our region. The Mid-Atlantic Region encompasses southern Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
We have had a wonderful first nine weeks of school and we hope each child comes home daily talking about how great their school is so far this year. I encourage you to ask your child(ren) about something they learned at school each day. You can also ask them to demonstrate skills they have learned for you while completing homework assignments. This dialogue increase their learning and also makes the family stronger. We continue to be a standards-based educational community and we invite you to be part of this endeavor. The web site below will allow you to view what your child is required to accomplish while in their respective grade level this year.
I strongly recommend that you visit this site, become familiar with the standards, and discuss them with your student.
My goals are that Kelly Miller Elementary continues to hold high academic and behavioral expectations for our students. As a community, we will continue working together to maintain a culture of shared beliefs and values, communicate openly with students, staff, parents, and the community by providing quality instruction that is based on current research and best practices.
Please stop by and be a part of our awesome school!
